My name is Sunnyva van der Vegt and languages always have been my hobby.
In 1993 I became a graduate in Classical Languages and Literature (Latin and Ancient Greek) at the University of Amsterdam. For 10 years I worked in a civil law notary office and wrote books about Ancient History.
In 2003 I decide that I wanted to become a teacher of language and followed a special programme at the Hogeschool van Amsterdam. I graduated as a certified teacher Dutch as a Foreign Language (NT2) and started to take on teaching jobs immediately.
How do I teach?
After 20+ years of experience I can say that my style of teaching is accurate. My lessons are well prepared and organized. This doesn't mean that I am very strict, but I like to provide good quality and accurate information. It's my ultimate goal to let you make progress in a certain pace.
My style can also be defined as interactive. In class I try to challenge you to use the language as soon as possible and as unprepared as possible. Because that is what you need to learn, to use Dutch in your daily life, in situations you come across and which you can't prepare for. This means that you will not sit still and listen to me endlessly during the lesson, on the contrary, most of the time you will be active yourself, using the language.
And finally my style is relaxed. This means that I like my class to be a safe environment for everyone. You don't need to feel ashamed while practising and making mistakes. I will never force you to take on tasks you aren't ready for (yet). Also, you can always make requests about the content of the lessons. If possible, and after consent of the group, I will incorporate your wish in the programme.
What courses do I offer?
Mostly I offer general Dutch courses aimed at daily use of the language. In these courses you will learn the basics of speaking, reading, listening and writing.
Apart from the general courses I offer conversation courses to help you overcome difficulties you might experience whilst using the language in daily life.
When you need Dutch for work, I can - after teaching you the basics- offer job related courses or private lessons.
I also provide help when you need to prepare for an exam (civic integration or state exam). There are many different forms in which this help can take place. We can form a study group and practise for all subjects of the exam. You can receive help on a specific detail of the exam following online private lessons. Or maybe you only need a few sessions to feel more secure after preparing on your own? Everything can be discussed.
